Autumn Bouquet: Patchwork and Appliqué Quilts from Reproduction Prints

This is a wonderful book by New Zealand quilter, Sharon Keightley. Featuring 12 original designs made with piecing and applique, the quilts in this book are gorgeous! The author gives specific tips for selecting fabrics and reproduction prints to create your own quilts in a similar style. The directions for creating each quilt are very thorough, also. I've been one of Sharon's fans from the first time I purchased one of her digital patterns (an applique table runner) and now because of this book I'm even a bigger fan! When I started to read this book and got to the first quilt picture, Rose of Thorns (22.5" square), I literally said OMG out loud. It's not an elaborate quilt but it just struck all of my quilter heart strings. There is not one quilt in this book that I wouldn't want to make...they are all wonderful.The book is well written, instructions are clear, and the pictures are helpful. Of the twelve patterns, only two are without applique; however, several others could be made without the applique and they would still turn out lovely.Projects range in size from wall hanging/table topper to lap size. (For me, they are all so gorgeous that I'd want to hang every one of them on my walls!) The smaller projects are perfect if you want to try out Sharon's techniques and patterns before moving on to something larger. The applique shapes used throughout the book are simple and the smallest are the flower centers but by the time you add a 1/4 in they become a very manageable size.Applique pattern pieces appear in the book with each of the quilt patterns. Because of the freezer paper applique method that Sharon uses, the applique shapes are NOT reversed so if you plan to use the raw edge applique method, you will need to reverse the applique shapes.Sharon machine applique's her shapes to her quilts. At the back of the book she describes her process. (She also has helpful videos of her techniques on YouTube.)I highly recommend this book and believe that quilters of all skill levels will find projects they can be successful completing.I hope this information was helpful.

This book is full of beautiful inspiring quilts. Sharon’s instructions are clear, and she includes many photos to guide you through the steps. I am participating in an online sew along to make one of the quilts in the book. It’s going together nicely, and I’m enjoying the process. I’m anxious to finish this one so I can start another one!

Totally loved this book! Beautiful quilts and wonderful photos. Very inspiring, can't wait to pick a pattern and start creating some of these beautiful quilts. Love the combination of piecing and applique. I think these quilts would also lend themselves to beautiful wool applique!
