As a professional photographer with 15 years of experience, I’ve used just about every kind of light stand you can imagine—from big rolling C-stands to featherweight travel tripods. The ULANZI AT-05 strikes a really nice balance between portability and sturdiness. It folds down into a compact, travel-friendly form factor that fits easily into my on-the-go kit, yet it feels solid when extended. I’ve mounted both strobes and continuous lights on it with no problems.It’s mostly made of metal and has a good weight to it—not heavy, but substantial enough to feel reliable. The footprint is relatively small, so I wouldn’t recommend using this outdoors in any kind of wind, but for indoor studio work or travel shoots, it’s a fantastic, robust option. It’s already earned a permanent spot in my kit.Interestingly, my wife—who’s a professional makeup artist—used it recently on a set to support her makeup lights, and it worked beautifully. It’s versatile enough to cross over between photography and production support roles, which I appreciate more than I expected.My only real gripe is the twist-locking mechanism for extending the sections. I know this design is becoming more common, but I personally don’t like it. I prefer something I can really crank down, like a knob or a tab that locks securely in place. These twist-to-tighten sections can loosen over time or fail under pressure, and while that hasn’t happened yet, I still feel like it introduces more risk than necessary.All that said, this is still a great stand for what it is. It’s well-built, reliable under load, and super convenient for travel or small-footprint setups. Just be mindful of how you secure it, especially if you’re using heavier gear. For anyone looking for a dependable and portable light stand, this one gets a solid thumbs up from me—with just a small asterisk on the locking mechanism.

The design of this thing is brilliant, and it excels against so many other light stands. Super compact for portability. More so than my most compact stands!A little on the heavy side, which is both a pro and a con, depending how you look at it.Has a very wide and stable base.I'm not crazy about the plastic support beams. Just seem like a weak link in an otherwise solid stand.Also, Iight be doing it wrong, but I'm not getting a full 6.5 ft. Maybe that's the height when you mount a light on it, but not the stand itself? I may be missing something on the extension, but I'm calling it closer to 6ft.Other than that, it's a great stand, that can fill multiple jobs for studio, mobile, run and gun use.A little pricey for a stand, but I guess the innovative design is where that comes in at. Mostly pleased, as usual, with Ulanzi. Good stuff.

The ULANZI AT-05 2M Heavy Duty Foldable Light Stand absolutely exceeded my expectations! It’s incredibly sturdy and easily supports my strobe lights and softboxes with no wobble at all. The 6.56ft height extension gives me plenty of flexibility whether I’m shooting portraits or overhead product setups. I also love how compact and foldable it is—super convenient for both studio and on-location shoots. The 5kg load capacity is no joke—this stand handles heavier gear with ease. PRODUCT/THOUGHTS:This is a pretty impressive portable stand. Construction is actually heavy-duty, as it states. It’s very easy to operate, extend out, along with the feet. Supports up to around 11LBs, can hold things like soft boxes, cameras, studio lights. My main application is a video/photography light. Can recommend.

My husband is super happy with this tripod because he can put his laser on it. Its strong, sturdy and adjustable. Works perfect.
